GOLGOTHA WAS A BUMMER

'jesus, the first non-violent revolutionary, dig it!'
one of CSN or Y.

Jesus is with us
in our cigarettes
and our whisky
Like he was with
Mary Magdalene
when she was frisky
Could he be with
the lazy French
who died of summer?
And who was with
Jesus when
Golgotha was a bummer?

Jesus was with Garland Greene
when he wore
her head as a hat
Like he is with
the dark hero
dressed as a bat
Could he be with
the Manson too
and the other Fucking Mad?
Who was with Jesus
when his carpentry
was so bad?

Jesus is with us
in our CSI airwaves
and our corporate personal flair
Like he is with
our logos
and the 3rd generation immigrants
death row stare
Could he be with his
countrymen
who dis him as a dog?
Was Jesus with Jesus
when he was nailed
to a simple log?

Jesus is with us
as we waste our time
Like he is with
the needy and blind
who need any kind of sign
Could he be there
while you
search online for snuff?
Who was with Jesus
when Jesus
had had enough?

Jesus is with the
midnight atheist spitting and
unapproachable
Like he is with the child
touching priests
untouchable
Could he be with
soulless advertisers
who clutter up cable?
Was Jesus with Mary
giving birth
in the stable?

Jesus is with us
tear gassing
like only
the well-fed can
Like he is with the
hungry demonstrators
tear gassed
to the bullet ground
Could Jesus have been with OJ
on the phone
driving the broadcast Bronco?
Was Jesus with us
in the eighties
making all the electro?

Jesus is with us
as we bomb with awe
his old land for black money
Like he’s with us
when we hold
his dead cold hand on Sunday
Could he be with the
million fly children
dying hungry?
Who was with him
stuck on a short fence
calling mummy?

Jesus is with us
as we advertise kids knitting
for free
and in our poor tax
lottery cravings
Like he’s with us
in our late night rubber perversions
and
with our stolen pension savings
Could he be with the
killer’s father
when the
father made his wife
a killer's mother?
Who was with Jesus
on his wooden shape
when Golgotha was a bummer?
